Dryer Vent Cleaning

When a dryer runs it expels lint. This lint travels away from the dryer and out of the house through a ventilation duct. This is the dryer vent. Lint builds up in the dryer vent over time, slowly reducing air flow. Other obstructions can get in there as well. For example, birds sometimes fly inside and build nests in there. When air flow is restricted, the dryer has to work harder and takes longer to dry the clothes.

Perhaps a load of laundry used to take 40 minutes to dry, but now it takes 70. This could be a clogged dryer vent. If the blockage is really bad, the dryer may hardly work at all. You may assume you need a new dryer, but really you just needed to unclog the dryer vent. In addition, that extra wear and tear on the dryer will make it not last as long. Dryer lint is also highly flammable, so you really want to get it out of there. This is why it is important to have your dryer vent cleaned out periodically. I would recommend about once a year.

I use a cordless drill with a rotary brush attachment. The brush head sits at the end of a flexible rod, which I insert into the dryer vent duct. I then attach more rods, one at time, to go deeper and deeper into the duct until I reach the exit point. All the while I am running air through the duct, such as with a shop vac, to remove all the debris loosened by the brush. I also clean up the lint in and around the dryer.

Here is the dryer vent opening that I run my cleaner through.
This is what the process looks like. The shop vac sucks in lint as it is loosened up by the brush.
Here is the brush head when it has finally poked out the side of the house. The brush can also be inserted from the outside in.

TV Wall Mounting

I mounted this TV in someone’s bedroom. The mounting bracket enables the user to adjust the tilt up or down. Some mounting brackets even enable the TV the swivel left and right.
Sample mounting bracket. This is fixed to a firm structure, usually wood studs behind the drywall. Then the TV is mounted on the bracket.

Pricing

I generally charge about $35-50 per hour plus materials. These are hours I am actually working. I don’t count time talking, going to a hardware store, driving, and so on. Some jobs may fall out of this price range, but usually this is pretty accurate.
